Radiographs and clinical data on symptomatic total knee arthroplasty (TKA) patients who had anterior knee pain were collected from a single referral clinic in a community where patella resurfacing and nonresurfacing were performed with a comparable incidence. A total of 36 patients with symptomatic resurfaced patellae after TKA were treated, 8 of which required surgical intervention. During the same period, only 2 patients with unresurfaced patellae underwent surgical intervention. In this cross-sectional survey, reoperations related to TKA with a resurfaced patella were more common than those related to a nonresurfaced patella.
